2 tablespoons butter, cold
1 cup masa*
1 tablespoon chili powder, (Ancho or dark)
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
3 eggs
1 cup half-and-half
1 cup red onion, diced
1 tablespoon garlic, diced
poblano chile pepper, diced
1/4 cup spicy sausage, diced
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup Jalapeno Jack cheese, grated
1/2 cup Cheddar cheese, grated

For Crust
Cut cold butter into masa with fork (or pulse in food processor). Mix in chili powder and salt. Mix in water.

Press masa mixture into a 9-inch pie tin and bake for 15 minutes. Set aside to cool.

For Filling
In a medium-size bowl, whisk egg and half-and-half together. Add red onion, garlic, pepper, sausage, chili powder and salt to egg mixture. Mix cheeses together and sprinkle into tamale shell. Pour egg mixture over all ingredients in the tamale shell.

Bake for 50 minutes at 350°F. Serve warm.

Ingredients 1-5 are for the crust. Ingredients 6-15 are for the filling.

*Masa, similar to corn meal, is available in most supermarket baking sections. If masa is not available, a pre-made, 9-inch pie shell can be substituted for the crust.
