Lamb Steaks w/Bell Pepper Salsa

50 4-5 ounce each American lamb from sirloin
1 cup curry powder
1 cup white pepper
1 #10 can tomato puree
1/2 cup garlic powder
1/2 cup dried basil
3 1/2 pounds scallions
12 green bell peppers
12 golden bell peppers
6 purple bell peppers
3 1/2 pounds white button mushrooms

In a small mixing bowl, combine curry powder and white pepper thoroughly. Rub spice mixture into each side of lamb chops until all of spice mixture is used. Place seasoned lamb chops on a hot grill or broil until done. Cook to an internal temperature of 150-155 degrees. Approximate grilling time would be 12-14 minutes. When broiling, place chops 3-4 inches from heat source. Top each steak or chop with ¼ cup salsa when placed on plate.
For salsa: Mince scallions. Chop all peppers into irregular pieces. Slice mushrooms crosswise into thin slices. Sauté all scallions, peppers and mushrooms until softened over medium heat. Use nonstick vegetable shortening spray and stir often to prevent burning or sticking. Add tomato puree, basil and garlic powder and stir. Heat thoroughly.
