Old-Fashioned Chocolate Syrup

1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Heat the corn syrup, cocoa powder, sugar and water in a 2-quart saucepan over high heat to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil the cocoa mixture for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Cool the cocoa mixture slightly and serve warm or cool completely and serve at room temperature.
Make-Ahead: The cooled mixture can be refrigerated for up to 10 days in a covered container.
