4 cups red cabbage, shredded
1/4 cup water or 2 tablespoons water
1/4 cup red wine vinegar or 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon salt
ground black pepper, to taste

In a large nonstick skillet, combine the cabbage and water. Cook over high heat for about 1 minute, until the cabbage begins to wilt. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Cover, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for about 15 minutes, until the cabbage is tender.
