Herbed Steak Dijon

4 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon water
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
4 8-10 ounces each top sirloin steaks, well trimmed, cut 1 inch thick
Dash canola oil, for the grid, if using grill
to taste salt and pepper




In a small saucepan, combine the garlic and water, and cook on high heat for 2 minutes. Stir in the mustard, basil, thyme, and pepper, and mix well. Remove from the heat and set aside. Spread the herbed mustard over the steaks on both sides. Prepare the grill or electric grilling machine for cooking. If using a charcoal grill, place the steaks on an oiled grid over ashen coals. Grill for 15 to 18 minutes for medium rare to medium, turning occasionally, for each 1 inch of thickness. Remove from the grill, and season with salt and pepper to taste, if using. If using an electric grilling machine, grill the steak for approximately 4 1/2 to 5 minutes for medium rare for each 1 inch of thickness. Remove and add salt and pepper to taste, if using.
