Split Pea, Carrot and Chicken Soup

1/2 lb dried green split peas or 1/2 tsp garlic powder or 1/2 tsp ground cumin or 1/4 tsp powdered ginger or 1/4 tsp curry powder or 6 carrots, cut into 1/2 inch rounds or 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes or Pepper




Place peas, garlic, cumin, ginger, and curry powder in a medium saucepan. Add six cups water and slowly bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook gently for 30 to 45 minutes. Add carrots and cook for 15 minutes longer; add chicken and cook for 5 minutes or until chicken is cooked just through. Season to taste with pepper.
