2 to 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon, or 2 cinnamon sticks
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
4 whole cloves
1 orange, cut into slices
cinnamon sticks, for garnish, optional
whipped cream, for garnish, optional

Put the cider, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and orange slices in a large, heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat for 5 to 8 minutes, or until hot. Do not boil. Stir several times with a wooden spoon.
