A Cozy Bed

New sheets, new pillows, new spreads! Goodnight!

By Family Time

When it's cold outside, we all look forward to crawling into a warm, comfy bed at the end of the day. If your bed is not as welcoming as you might want, here are a few tips to help.

Bed Linens

There's a reason for winter white sales. Everyone who didn't get those 400-thread-count sheets for Christmas or Hanukkah can buy them now, at reduced prices. The higher the thread count, the softer and silkier the sheets will feel.

Treat your bed to a new set of high thread-count sheets, or soft flannel sheets.

Buy a new duvet cover for your comforter. You can get one that matches the colors of the room or your sheets. It will dress up the bed in a second and feel so good. Matching pillow shams add to the complete look.

Invest in a new bedspread. You may find a homespun looking quilt or chenille spread doesn't cost too much and is just the thing to bring new warmth to your bed and bedroom. Put the current one away for a few months and enjoy the new spread.

Pillows and More Pillows

Make sure the pillows you currently sleep on are the right ones for your comfort. If they are very old, it might be time to dispose of them and invest in new ones. Buy pillow protectors for all your pillows, old and new, and wash them often.

The home stores have large assortments of throw pillows and bolsters that support us when we read in bed. The throw pillows are decorative and fun and will make the bed look warm and luxurious. The bolsters can do the same, plus they add to our comfort.

A New Comforter

You may prefer an electric blanket to a down or synthetic fiber comforter. Choose whatever keeps you warm and happy, but make sure your blanket is still effective and your comforter has not lost half of its fill.

A new comforter is significant investment, but with a new duvet cover it will turn your bed into a sumptuous place. Fluff it into place and crawl under it. You will be asleep in seconds.

Sprucing up your bed will make your whole bedroom look fresher. It's a quick way to give the room a facelift, and to give you a good night's sleep!
