The exciting hours your children spend trick-or-treating will be even better when they collect candy and other goodies in this adorable cat candy caddy! Making this craft with your kids heightens the happy anticipation of the holiday.

To make the caddy, you will need to get a few Halloween-colored items from the craft store, plus some standard supplies. Here is what you need:

  • One 64-ounce Nesquik canister
  • About 75 1-inch black pom-poms
  • 1 small red pom-pom
  • One 16-inch length of gray-and-black feather boa (available at craft stores)
  • 1 roll of decorative Halloween ribbon
  • 3 silver pipe cleaners
  • 2 sheets of heavy-duty black felt
  • 1 sheet of heavy-duty gray felt
  • 1 sheet thin craft foam (available at craft stores)
  • 2 wiggly eyes (available at craft stores)
  • Craft glue gun
  • Safety scissors
  • Craft knife
  • Halloween candy
How To Make the Cat Caddy
The container is made from the Nestlé Nesquik canister. Wash and dry it thoroughly before starting the project.

To begin, remove the yellow plastic lid. Wrap and glue the black felt all the way around the outside of the canister. Trace the bottom of the canister on the black felt and cut it out. Glue this to the bottom of the canister.

Use the craft knife to cut two 1 ½-inch slits, 1 inch apart, to indicate where the felt ears will be inserted. This should be about 1 1/2 inches from the top of the canister.

Use the ear template provided and cut out two ears with the tabs from the craft foam. Cut two inner ears from the gray felt. Glue the felt inner ears to the foam ear pieces.

Fold the middle tab forward on the ears and the two other tabs backwards. Apply a dab of glue to each tab and insert the ears into the slots.

Make a Cat Face
Trace a circle on the black felt using the yellow plastic lid as a guide. Cut out the Felt and glue it on the lid.

Next, cut a ¼ -inch wide strip from the black felt long enough to encircle lid. Glue it on so that the lid is completely covered in black felt.

Attach the wiggly eyes and red pom-pom nose to the canister with the glue gun. To make the whiskers, cut three pipe cleaners in half and glue the pieces, three to a side, just under the nose.

Snap the lid back onto the container. You may need to bead glue around the inside of the lid before re-attaching it to made sure it stays in place.

Cat Tails and Little Cat Feet
To make the tail, simply glue a 17-inch length of the feather boa to the top of the canister opposite the face.

Use the cat feet template to cut out two sets of feet from the gray felt. Using the glue gun, cover each set of feet with the black pom-poms and glue the feet to the bottom of the canister.

Make it Complete
Use the craft knife to cut a 3-inch-wide opening in the top of the cat. A parent should do this, since the knife is sharp. Make sure the opening is large enough for little hands to reach into.

Use the knife again to poke two holes on either side of the opening. Thread decorative Halloween ribbon, thread ribbon through each hole and secure it with a double knot inside the canister to create the carrying handles.

Let the black cat dry overnight so that the glue sets completely. It's now ready to hit the street! See how fast it fills with candy!
