Candy Necklaces

Fabulous necklaces that are fun to eat!

By Kathy Oberman

Candy necklaces are so simple to make, your kids will quickly figure them out - and have loads of fun creating their edible jewelry. You'll love them because they are so deliciously easy and each one will light up the eyes of your little ones.

Soon the kids will be making bright, cheerful necklaces, bracelets, or anklets for family members, neighbors, and friends. Everyone loves them!

Candy Essentials
To make the necklaces, you will need the following items:

  • Red or black shoe string licorice
  • Life Savers in multiple flavors
  • Any kind of candy with a center hole large enough for the shoestring licorice
Assembling a Necklace
Line up the candies on a tabletop or tray in the pattern of your choice. Mix and match colors and shapes, or make a monochromatic design.

Cut a piece of licorice so that it's long enough to tie around your neck, wrist, or ankle. Make chocker length or long, loopy necklaces, plan on a single bracelet or a set of "bangles."

String the candy onto the licorice. Tie the ends in a square knot so the candy won't slide off. Drape it over your own neck or someone else's.

Making these necklaces is a wonderful rainy day activity or a good party game. Suggest them for your child's next sleepover party - the kids can make their jewelry and then munch on it later in the evening while they watch videos or DVD's.

Have fun!
