Spiced Hot Apple Cider
Hot cider hits the spot on cold, snowy afternoons or when you're sitting in front of a blazing fire. Plus, it's easy to make and fills the house with heady aromas! Prep. time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 5 to 8 minutes Serves: 4 to 6

Ingredients

| 1/2 gallon fresh apple cider | |
| 2 to 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon, , or 2 cinnamon sticks | |
| 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg | |
| 4 whole cloves | |
| 1 orange, , cut into slices | |
| cinnamon sticks, , for garnish, optional | |
| whipped cream, , for garnish, optional | |
Directions
Put the cider, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and orange slices in a large, heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat for 5 to 8 minutes, or until hot. Do not boil. Stir several times with a wooden spoon.
Strain into a heatproof pitcher or individual mugs. Serve garnished with cinnamon sticks or whipped cream, if desired.
Refrigerate leftover cider and reheat gently for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes in the microwave or in a pan set over medium heat. Author: Barbara Albright
