Date Nut Bars
Dates make great dessert bars.

2 eggs, separated
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
Pinch salt
1/2 cup water
1 pound dates, pitted and chopped
3/4 cup raisins
1 cup chopped pecans




Beat egg yolks and add sugar. Sift flour with baking powder and salt; add to sugar mixture alternately with water. Fold in stiffly-beaten egg whites, dates, raisins and pecans. Spread in greased, 8-inch square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, or until done. Cut into 1-inch by 2-inch bars while warm and roll in powdered sugar.
