Detering Ranch Pecans

1 cup water
1 cup sugar
3-4 dried red chili peppers, any variety
2 cups pecan halves
1/4 cup molasses




Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Combine water, sugar, and chiles in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add pecans and return to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Drain pecans. Transfer to a baking sheet. Bake an additional 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour pecans into a small bowl. Add molasses and toss to coat. Return pecans to the baking sheet. Bake an additional 45 minutes, or until pecans are very crisp, stirring occasionally.
