Lamb Vegetable Soup

12 ounces boneless American leg of lamb, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
Non-stick cooking spray
1 medium onion, sliced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
2 whole cloves
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 cup celery, diced
1 cup turnips, diced
1 cup carrots, diced
3 cups beef broth
2 cups canned tomatoes
1 1/2 cups frozen peas

Spray heavy saucepan with non-stick pan spray. Cook lamb and onion over medium heat until lamb is lightly browned, add remaining ingredients, except peas. Heat to boiling point, reduce heat, cover and cook over low heat one hour or until lamb is tender, stirring occasionally. Add peas and simmer 5 to 10 minutes longer. Remove bay leaf before serving.
