All American Lamb Burger

2 pounds ground American lamb, lean fresh
1 cup (8-oz. can) tomato sauce
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup onion, minced
3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil or parsley
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 teaspoon seasoned pepper
8 hamburger buns, split and toasted
8 lettuce leaves
2 slices red onion, sliced into rings
16 slices tomato




In large bowl combine ground lamb, tomato sauce, oats, basil, garlic powder, seasoned salt and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are blended. Shape into eight 1/2-inch thick patties.
GRILLl: ignite coals in barbecue, allow to burn until bright red and covered with gray ash. Grill lamb patties 4-inches from coals for 5 minutes per side for medium-well or until desired degree of doneness.

BROIL: place lamb patties on cold broiler pan. Broil lamb 4-inches from source of heat for 5 minutes per side for medium-well or until desired degree of doneness.
