Turkey Orange Meatballs

1 pound lean ground turkey
1 cup whole rolled oats
1 orange, peeled and diced
1 large egg, beaten
1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
2 1/2 teaspoons coarse salt
1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
2 cups orange juice
1/2 cup tomato paste
6 tablespoons rice wine vinegar 4 teaspoons cornstarch
Chopped, fresh herbs for garnish, optional

In large bowl, mix together the turkey, oats, diced orange, egg, Italian seasoning, 1 1/2 teaspoons of the salt and 1/2 teaspoon of the pepper. When well mixed, break off walnut-sized pieces and roll them between your palms into balls. You should have 28 to 30 meatballs.

In a large, nonstick skillet set over medium heat, cook the meatballs for 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally, until cooked through and browned on all sides. (Cooking time depends on the size of the meatballs.)

Whisk together the orange juice, tomato paste, vinegar, cornstarch, the remaining 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of pepper. Pour over the meatballs in the skillet and cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes or until the sauce turns clear and coats the meatballs. Garnish the meatballs with chopped, fresh herbs, if desired, and serve with toothpicks in a pretty serving dish.
