1/2 medium-size onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1 (12-ounce) bottle chili sauce
1/3 cup maple-flavored syrup
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon ground hot pepper
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

Combine the ingredients in a medium-sized saucepan. Bring to a simmer over moderate heat and cook, stirring frequently, for 15 minutes. The sauce may be stored, covered, in the refrigerator for up to a week.
