Strawberry-Champagne Punch

3 oranges, preferably juice oranges
1 pint fresh strawberries
1 1/2 cups brandy
1 cup Benedictine
1/4 cup grenadine
Two 750-ml bottles champagne, or sparkling wine, chilled
One 1-liter bottle club soda




Peel and section one of the oranges, holding it over a bowl as you cut between the membrane to catch any juice. Put the sections in another bowl. Squeeze the remaining 2 oranges and add the juice to the bowl. Cover and refrigerate.

Rinse and hull the strawberries. Slice and transfer to the bowl with the orange sections. Pour the brandy, Benedictine, and grenadine over the fruit, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to macerate.

Fill a punch bowl about two-thirds full with ice cubes. Add the fruit and collected juices, the orange juice, the Champagne, and the club soda. Stir gently and serve immediately by ladeling the punch into small cups.
