Baked Pears en Croûte
These heavenly bundles of puff pastry are filled with fresh pears and an almond-flavored cream cheese mixture.  The flavor and aroma are so enticing, you may want to skip dinner and go right to dessert.

Cook Time: 30 minutes


1/2 of an 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 tablespoons chopped almond (optional)
1/8 teaspoon almond extract
4 medium pear, peeled, cored and cut in half lengthwise
1 package (17.3 ounces) Pepperidge Farm® Puff Pastry Sheets, thawed
1 egg, beaten
confectioners' sugar

Heat the oven to 400°F.  Lightly grease a baking sheet.
Stir the cream cheese and granulated sugar in a medium bowl until the mixture is smooth.  Stir in the almonds and almond extract, if desired.
Spread the cream cheese mixture onto the cut sides of 4 pear halves.  Top with the remaining pear halves, cut-side down, pressing gently.
Unfold 1 pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.  Roll the pastry sheet into an 8x14-inch rectangle.  Cut into 2 (8x7-inch) rectangles.  Repeat with the remaining pastry sheet.
Place 1 pear upright in the center of each pastry rectangle. Brush the edges of the pastries with the egg.  Fold the corners to the center up over pears and twist to seal.  Place the pastries onto the baking sheet.  Brush with the egg.
Bake for 30 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown.  Sprinkle with the confectioners' sugar.
