Serves: 16 to 24 brownies
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 30 to 35 minutes

5 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter or margarine
1 3/4 cups sugar
1/4 cup light corn syrup
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sifted flour
3/4 cup chopped pecans
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine unsweetened chocolate and butter in a 2 quart pan. Heat until chocolate is melted and smooth when stirred. Let the chocolate cool slightly. If the chocolate is too hot when you add the eggs, the eggs will "cook."

If using a microwave to melt the chocolate, heat on high for 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 minutes until the chocolate looks wet and begins to soften. Stir until smooth. Cool slightly. If the chocolate is too hot when you add the eggs, the eggs will "cook."

With a fork, beat in sugar, corn syrup, vanilla and eggs until well mixed.

Spread evenly in a greased, foil lined 9-x-13-inch baking pan. Sprinkle the nuts and chocolate chips over top. Bake 30 to 35 minutes, or until set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs clinging to it. Do not overbake.

Set the pan on a wire rack so cool. Cut into squares and serve.
